The Outlooke Pointe Foundation (OPF) supports together with Amorita Resort, City Government of Tagbilaran, Tourism Office of Municipality of Maribojoc Barangay Toril- Maribojoc, Mr. and Mrs. Quintin Segundo, Jeramil Decasa, Rowen Magante and Flushing Meadows Resort and Playground, in an exhibit entitled “Pamilyang Bol-anon”. Works were inspired by the religiosity of the Boholano family and the Church’s mission in safeguarding the family’s traditions and values.

Introduction

Seventy-five years have passed since the seed of the Church in Bohol sprouted forth as the Diocese of Tagbilaran and marked with a glorious array of bishops, priests, religious men and women, missionaries, prominent statesmen and exemplary lay Catholics. Seventy-five years have passed, and the glory from which the Diocese sprung continues to grow and bloom amidst a changing world that threatens to undo the traditional Christian values which mark this oasis of faith.

What has led the Church in Bohol to come this far? What has strengthened us to face the challenges of these difficult times? With much reflection and prayer, we have come to see that our strength did not lie in the island’s natural resources or in our old, enduring churches. Our strength lay in the “little churches” that reside in every home that professes and lives the Catholic faith to the fullest. Little churches called the family, that is, the Boholano Family.

It is the mission of the Church to preserve this most guarded, most precious jewel. Through the years, the Boholano family has remained strong and persevering amidst the many trials and obstacles which threaten the heart of the family in our world today. In spite of it all, it has remained ever resilient in keeping its Christian values and faith intact. In a developing world, it has shown all the more mature in facing the challenges of our times. What more can we say of the countless servants of society, both in the Church and the State, produced from this very cradle of love and faith.

In the occasion of the 75th diamond jubilee of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, we wish to give tribute to the cradle of the Catholic Church in Bohol, the Pamilyang Bol-anon. Through this exhibit, we wish to depict through paint and canvass the depth of our religious values, the spirit and culture which marks the Boholano family. Let these paintings be timeless memoirs of the past, reminders for the present, and guides to the new and future generation of Boholanos.

Why the exhibit?

In these modern times, the media has become the prime agent of change. The fast movement of society has threatened to bury and disregard the Christian values and traditions handed down to us by our ancestors. Through these works of art, we wish to immortalize the heritage and faith that have shaped and strengthened our families and the Church in Bohol. May these paintings be etched in the hearts of the present generation of Boholanos and of those to come so that its timeless beauty and glory will live on.

May this seed once more be planted in their hearts so that it may grow and bloom as they face the onslaught of a secularized culture, so they may not sway and stand firm on the rock of our identity as Boholanos. Let paint and canvass bring to life what it means to be truly BOL-ANON!

25 works were exhibited at the Bishop’s Palace, Tagbilaran City, Bohol. For more inquiries on the works email joey.manalo@outlookepointe.com.

This project is for the benefit of the Diocesan Pastoral Program of the Diocese of Tagbilaran

The Sigma Rho Fraternity has taken pride in the way its members have shaped and continue to shape Philippine history. In a way, the fraternity has established itself to be the premiere brotherhood of men who only aspire for what is right, or in other words, seekers of the right. Thus, members of the fraternity have placed themselves in positions that would allow them to steer the country and its people. It has produced justices of the Supreme Court, senators, congressmen, public servants, legal luminaries, businessmen, and outstanding citizens of the country.

With the goal of nation-building in mind, the Sigma Rho Council, which serves as the body that directs the energies of the fraternity towards a unified end, has decided to partner up with Outlook Pointe Foundation, a foundation that supports both establish and up and coming artists and musicians in the country, to navigate its efforts towards arts and culture. Culture is the soul of the nation. Absent a culture that thrives and artists and cultural workers whose works are valued appropriately, any advancement in the economy and governance of the country are without meaning.

It is for this reason why the Sigma Rho Council has chosen to come up with a project that will showcase what the Filipino can do in the arena of music. Through the concert entitled “Seekers of the Right,” the Council has taken the initial steps to forging its commitment to this specific endeavor of supporting the arts by donating part of the proceeds of the concert to the Makiling School of the Arts which has throughout its existence produced for the Philippines the artists who carry with them the good name and honor of the country whenever and wherever they paint, sculpt, or perform.

The Sigma Rho is a force, a campus force, a national force.

True to its nature as a force, it has fostered and produced luminaries not only in the legal field but other professional fields as well. In a way, one can proclaim, without even a hint of doubt, that the Sigma Rho has been instrumental in nation-building. The men it has instilled its virtues in who have stood up to become indispensible members of society have steered the country into becoming one of Asia’s growing economy.

Since the Sigma Rho has found itself rooted in the heart of the nation, it has now become imperative that it fosters for the country it loves so dearly a soul. It has been said that the soul of a country is its culture, driven by the arts and music it creates. For this reason, the Sigma Rho has decided to focus its energies into providing avenues for culture creation and opportunities for cultural workers to be more appreciated so that they can see themselves not only as independent onlookers but as partners in turning the Philippines into a well-rounded nation that is brimming with talent.

Thus, the Sigma Rho has partnered with the Outlook Pointe Foundation, Inc. to formally initiate its endeavors with a concert entitled “Sulong Sining: Seekers of the Right,” showcasing the indisputable talents of established musical talents like TOYM awardee Jovianney Cruz, soprano Rachele Gerodias, concert pianist Joshua Alexander Manalo, and celebrated members of the Manila Symphony Orchestra: cellist Giancarlo Gonzales, violinist Jimmy Tagala, Jr., violist David Tagala, bassist Vincent dela Cruz, and percussionist Lexter Santos in one night that is bound to be remembered for decades. In true poetic fashion, the financial rewards and donations gathered from this unforgettable night will benefit the Philippine High School for the Arts, an institution whose goal is to produce geniuses in the field of the arts and music. But for now, just sit back and enjoy the show. There is definitely more to come.
