Sampalataya Artist Summit
The OPF believes that the Filipino’s faith not only encapsulates our collective value as one people but is an essential ingredient to social change and true nation-building. The Filipino’s ability to believe in something bigger than themselves, this was the theme The OPF decided to use for their second artist summit, Sampalataya: An ode to Filipino Resilience. Through the summit, the artists sought to delve into this aspect of faith and the continuous reshaping of artistic ideals through different styles and mediums.
The conversion of nature’s elements present in Tagaytay City and the mystic hill known as the Mt. Salvation was a long process of personal reflection and interface among the group. Held in the residence of OPF advocate Mrs. Gerarda Villa, the OPF artist summit has gone from Bohol’s sunny shores to foggy Tagaytay. On the subject of the identity of the Filipino artist and the role of art in nation building, creativity was on overdrive the results of which were individual works and a greater group piece. The exercise proved eye opening and dialogue was sparked– art and advocacy merged.
Sampalataya was OPF’s second artist summit and was held at the Tagaytay residence of Gerarda Villa on September 11-13, 2009 and works were exhibited at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City on November 9-17, 2009.
